About Dr. Paraiso

James J. Paraiso, D.O.

An accomplished surgeon, Dr. Paraiso has attained many awards and honors. These accomplishments include lecturing at national and international Orthopedic Conferences, including the Annual Florida Orthopedic Society Meeting and the Annual International Spine Research and Innovation meeting in Seville, Spain. His lectures have focused on "Non-Fusion Spine Reconstruction" and "Surgical Treatment of Adult Spinal Degeneration". Additional honors include co-authoring a chapter in the published spine surgery textbook, Dynamic Reconstruction of the Spine, and served as the Chief Resident of the Orthopaedic Surgery Service at Genesys Regional Medical Center / Michigan State University.

Dr. Paraiso is a graduate of the University of Florida with a B.A. in Religion and a B.S. in Zoology. In 1999, Dr. Paraiso obtained his medical degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and then spent five years in Grand Blanc, Michigan, where he completed his orthopedic surgery internship and residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center / Michigan State University. After residency, Dr. Paraiso acquired additional specialized spinal surgery training, completing a 12 month spine fellowship at Tampa General Hospital and with the widely acclaimed Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Paraiso has been practicing in Florida since 2004 and specializes in Minimal Access or "Minimally Invasive" spinal nerve decompression and fusion, adult scoliosis, adult cervical and lumbar spinal degeneration, non-fusion spinal reconstruction and lumbar disc replacement. His research interests include applying minimal access technology to various spinal degenerative disorders. When Dr. Paraiso is not taking care of patient needs, he enjoys being with his family, fishing, golfing and water sports.

Dr. Paraiso is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the Florida Orthopedic Society, the American Osteopathic Association, the Florida Medical Association and Marion County Medical Society.
